The second leg of the ‘ALIS on tour’, held at the Castel dell’Ovo in Naples on Tuesday 14 June, had the opportunity to discuss remarkable topics thanks to the presence of the Minister of Transport, Enrico Giovannini. Domenico De Rosa, CEO of SMET and chairman of the ALIS Motorways of the Sea Commission, was present during one of the key moments of the day in Naples.

‘We are in an effervescent province,’ said De Rosa, ‘Salerno is the province that registers the most in Italy. The Campania region is the transport capital of Italy. These are figures that we have been able to arrive at through the interpretation of sustainable mobility, with a transport system that appeared thirty years ago on the motorways of the sea and was able to respond, ahead of its time, to the energy transition that today is a trend on which we have perhaps gotten too carried away, with ideologies rather than evolutions. Not everything that comes after is progress. If we lose the achievements we have made, we risk casting doubt on the construction of our future’.

Statements that come right after the worrying words of Minister Giovannini, who in his speech made it clear that the ministry is thinking of not renewing or reducing fundamental incentives such as the Marebonus and Ferrobonus. A political move that would set Italy back decades, according to De Rosa.

‘The minister said,’ says the SMET CEO, ‘that incentives are no longer needed because intermodality has become common practice for many entrepreneurs. This is worrying as they seem to be words for a return to the past, after so many efforts made, both by the business world and the government itself. Our fear is to see a political agenda that instead of building on what is there today, intends to leave entrepreneurs alone. Anything but moving forward. This is deconstruction’.
