Mr. De Rosa, in June, INPS reported a net increase of over 350,000 jobs. Is this a breath of fresh air for the country?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The numbers are encouraging, but they must be interpreted carefully. Growth is concentrated in seasonal sectors such as tourism and the restaurant industry, and less so in sectors that are strategic for industrial development. In the logistics sector, for example, the balance remains weak, and the biggest problem remains unresolved: the shortage of drivers. It\u2019s a paradox. On the one hand, we have unemployment; on the other, thousands of unfilled positions that are slowing down the value chain.<\/p>\n

How significant is the driver shortage in the transportation sector?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a structural emergency. Italy is short about 20,000 to 25,000 professional drivers. At the European level, the estimate exceeds half a million. For a manufacturing and exporting country like ours, not having drivers means blocking goods, lengthening delivery times, and compromising the competitiveness of businesses. Logistics is not a detail; it is the backbone of the economy.<\/p>\n

Yet hiring is on the rise. Why is the transportation sector failing to attract workers?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Because the profession of a driver is now perceived as physically demanding and poorly protected. We need decent working conditions, training, and genuine professional recognition. We must bring young people back behind the wheel, including through targeted incentives such as free driver\u2019s licenses funded by companies and the government. Without decisive action, we risk a silent collapse.<\/p>\n

Many of the new contracts are fixed-term or seasonal. What are your thoughts on this as a business owner?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fixed-term and seasonal work help absorb peaks in demand, but they don\u2019t provide stability. In logistics, however, we need continuity, expertise, and loyalty to the company. A driver needs to be trained, given responsibility, and integrated into a long-term career path. We can\u2019t treat them like casual workers. If we want to turn employment figures into real value, we must focus on the quality of work, not just the quantity.<\/p>\n

The government has reduced incentives for the South, such as social security contribution relief. What impact do you foresee for the southern transport sector?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A negative impact. The South could have been the natural logistics hub of the Mediterranean, but without support measures and adequate infrastructure, it risks falling behind. The Southern social security contribution relief was a driving force for hiring young people and stabilizing the workforce. Removing it means slowing growth precisely where employment is most needed and where logistics can make a difference.<\/p>\n

What is your proposal to strengthen employment and transportation in Italy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three lines of action. First, revitalize the image of the driving profession through incentives and training. Second, invest in the South to turn it into a Mediterranean logistics hub, creating stable, skilled jobs. Third, simplify bureaucracy and reduce costs for businesses, thereby freeing up resources for new investments and hiring. Italy can grow, but without transportation there is no industry, and without drivers there is no transportation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
