Higher capacity articulated trucks, fewer vehicles on the road and lower environmental impact in the field of Logistics and Transport. Domenico De Rosa, CEO of the SMET Group and Chairman of the ALIS Motorways of the Sea Commission, comments with a “finally” the decision taken by the Ministry of Infrastructure and endorsed by the Draghi Government to give the green light to the circulation, within Italy, of articulated vehicles up to 18 meters long.
«Finally, with the publication of the Infrastructure Decree in the Official Gazette, the circulation of articulated vehicles up to 18 meters in length has finally been liberalized – said De Rosa – following the excellent results in terms of road safety and optimization of heavy goods logistics obtained by Project 18, launched by the SMET Group since 2009 together with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility and ANFIA».
«Special thanks – continues De Rosa – go to Andrea Bertoja, President of the ANFIA Trailers Section and his entire team for this extraordinary result and a special thanks to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility and Iveco who have sponsored Project 18».
The new legislation approving the use of new, larger articulated trucks represents an epoch-making innovation for the sector, according to De Rosa, who then points to the many benefits that this decision will bring to the Logistics and Transport sector. «Now it’s up to the hauliers to be recognized by the market the right value of this achievement – says De Rosa, who concludes – This is a revolution that will generate an improvement in the rationalization of logistics flows, the positive results of which will translate into a reduction in the number of vehicles on the roads with relative lightening of the overall load on the already so fragile and precarious highways of our country and also a significant positive effect of emission reduction directly related to it».
